John M. Pattison born near Owensville, Ohio on June 13, 1847 and died on June 18, 1906 shortly after becoming Ohio's democratic govenor. This cigar label was probably printed between January and June of 1906 as it implies that he is the current governor of Ohio. Pattison served in the Civil War and attended Ohio Wesleyan University, graduating in 1869. He then studied law being admitted to the bar in 1872. Pattison briefly served in the Ohio House of Representatives in 1873 and then managed an insurance company. He was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1890. He served one term from 1891-1893 losing his reelection bid in 1892. Patterson was then elected governor in 1905 but died a year later in June 1906. This cigar label has two punch holes in the left probably from a sample book.
