Dr. John Witherspoon was born in Gifford, East Lothian, Scotland on February 5, 1723 and died on his farm near Princeton, New Jersey on November 15, 1794) He was the only clergyman to sign the Declaration of Independence. He was active in New Jersey politics and also served as president of Princeton College.
