Cadwallader Colden was born in Ireland on February 7, 1688 and died Spring Hill near Flushing in Queens County on Long Island in New York on September 20, 1776. He was a physician, farmer, surveyor, botanist, and a lieutenant governor and then acting governor for the Province of New York. He was a royalist and at times was unpopular especially in 1765 when the stamp act was enacted.
